Capricorn Tourism is one of the fourteen Regional Tourism Organisations in Queensland, recognised by Tourism Queensland and Tourism Australia. The region incorporates the local authority areas of Rockhampton Regional Council & Central Highlands Regional Council, stretching from the Capricorn Coast and Great Keppel Island in the east, west through Rockhampton, Mount Morgan and Gracemere, then travelling out to Emerald, the Sapphire Gemfields and Carnarvon Gorge. The region covers an area of approximately 115,000 square kilometres. Capricorn Tourism is a non-profit membership based organisation that exists through the support of membership subscriptions, marketing initiatives, grant funding and corporate sponsorships. We represent some 350 tourism businesses including hotels, motels, farm stays, tours & attractions, beach and island holiday venues, the sapphire gemfields and National Parks. Capricorn Tourism also operate a nationally accredited Visitor Information Centre located at "The Spire" on the Gladstone Road in Rockhampton, just as you arrive in the city. From here, our qualified travel consultant staff and team of volunteers are able to provide 'local' advice and make bookings for travel, accommodation and attractions. Ours is a proudly non-biased booking and information service. The Management Committee of the organisation comprises 13 members from the tourism and hospitality industry, local government stakeholders and fellow tourism organisations. Our primary role is:
