Fishing

Does you bumper sticker proclaim you'd rather be fishing?

Then the Capricorn Region is just the place for some REEL fishing. You'll discover a wide range of 'secret spots' where the fish are plentiful and are just waiting to be caught.

Rockhampton hosts the famous Barra Bounty each year, which is one of Australia's most renowned tag and release competitions - fishing for 'barra' from the centre of 'Rocky' is hard to beat!

Both freshwater and saltwater fishing are popular with visitors to the Capricorn Region. There are however, some rules and regulations about fishing zones and catch limits. In some cases, a stocked impoundment permit may be required and certain rules apply regarding fishing zones. For more information about the new zones and permits, visit the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority website and Queensland Primary Industries & Fisheries website.
