Take a relaxing walk along the river's tree-lined boardwalk, which features many historical Rockhampton buildings. Throw in a fishing line and try your hand at catching one of the region's legendary barramundi. The riverbank is equipped with electric barbeques and picnic facilities - so why not bring the entire family along.
Looking for some country hospitality and solitude? Try a farm stay where it's just you and mother nature. Laze by a blazing camp fire or simply sit back and relax with your favourite book under one of the many shady trees.
If camping is more your idea of getting away, how about a bit of luxury with a deluxe 'tent' with all the modern amenities of a hotel room, set in the magnificent Carnarvon Gorge National Park.
Perhaps you would like to take a drive up Mount Archer to breathe in the magnificent views of the region. Have your lunch in the company of the many birds and kangaroos that inhabit the mount or venture off on a hike through the various bushwalking tracks. The sights from the top of Mount Archer are simply superb.
Why not take the family for a day-trip or coral cruise over to Great Keppel Island or follow your nose to the scented garden and man-made waterfall at Kershaw Gardens, North Rockhampton.
